Outstanding Community Scholarship Program

  • The Outstanding Community Service Scholarship is awarded in the honor of Dr. Kyaw Tun Naing, the Founder/CEO of Youth Society for Education, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization, to encourage youth involvement in community service. 

  • As the saying goes, "Invest in the potential of youth skills, and watch the world transform into a masterpiece." Supporting youths is the same as supporting the world itself.

  • By providing modest financial contributions, this scholarship seeks to amplify the impact of these young leaders, enabling them to pursue their initiatives and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.​​

 

Scholarship Awards

We are proud to support outstanding applicants with the following awards:

  • 1,000,000 MMK for one recipient

  • 650,000 MMK each for two recipients

 

What are the selection Criteria?

The applicant will be considered for the scholarship based on their:

  • Engagement in community service activities;

  • Commitment to serve and lead the community while addressing the needs of others;

  • Endurance and persistence in accomplishing a mission or task; and

  • Potential to succeed and be a role model among fellow colleagues.

What are the eligibility requirements?

At the time of applying for this scholarship, the applicant must:

  • Between the ages of 19 and 30 at the time of application;

  • Must complete secondary education at least; and

  • Have 1 year of volunteering experience in community development (or) the successful completion of a community project.

 

 

**Current YSE Officers and their family members are NOT eligible for this scholarship.**

Application Information

You will need the following information as part of the application process. The scholarship application must be completed and submitted online no later than "Nov 07, 2024".  Only applications submitted on the official platform will be considered. We do not accept emailed or paper applications.

  • Confirm you meet scholarship eligibility requirements.

  • Basic personal information such as birth date, ethnicity, address, etc.

  • Demonstrated volunteer experience.

  • Educational and professional background.

  • Medical, Physical, or other Personal Considerations.

  • One letter of recommendation (from volunteering organization or community leaders)

  • Two essays reflecting your thoughts on community development in English or Burmese

The YSE Outstanding Community Scholarship welcomes all applicants, regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, religion, geographic location, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. The Scholarship is dedicated to promoting fairness, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

  • Can I ask for financial aid for this Business English Class?
    Yes, you can get financial support if you are willing to learn and have proven financial difficulties.
  • Who is more eligible to receive need- based financial aid?
    We prioritize diversity in every learning environment. We provide aid to those who are from distant places with difficult internet access or those who can’t afford the class although you have concrete reasons to attend the class till the end.
  • Where can I upload my English level test?
    In the google form, you can attach your file as either photo format or pdf format.
  • I have taken other English Level tests, can I upload them too?
    Yes, you can upload other English qualification documents to prove your level.
  • How do I add a new question & answer?
    To add a new FAQ follow these steps: 1. Manage FAQs from your site dashboard or in the Editor 2. Add a new question & answer 3. Assign your FAQ to a category 4. Save and publish. You can always come back and edit your FAQs.
  • Can I insert an image, video, or GIF in my FAQ?
    Yes. To add media follow these steps: 1. Manage FAQs from your site dashboard or in the Editor 2. Create a new FAQ or edit an existing one 3. From the answer text box click on the video, image or GIF icon 4. Add media from your library and save.
  • How do I edit or remove the 'Frequently Asked Questions' title?
    You can edit the title from the FAQ 'Settings' tab in the Editor. To remove the title from your mobile app go to the 'Site & App' tab in your Owner's app and customize.
  • I have already submitted my application. Can I make changes or edit my responses after submitting, if I do so before the application deadline?
    No, all application submissions are final. Please carefully review your application before submitting to ensure you have included all necessary information and responses. If you have questions or need technical support with your application, please contact cod.ygn@ysenpo.org before submitting your application.
  • Can I submit more than one application?
    No, you may only submit one application. If you have already submitted one application, do not attempt to re-apply using a different email address or other information. Multiple submissions from the same applicant will not be evaluated, only the first application submitted will be taken into consideration and evaluated.
  • I am currently 18 years old. I will turn 19 after the application deadline, but before the start of the program. Am I eligible to apply?
    Unfortunately, since you will turn 19 after the application deadline, you will not be eligible to apply. We appreciate your understanding, and we encourage you to apply next time when you are eligible!
  • I am not proficient in English. Can I apply for the scholarship in another language?
    Applicants do not need to be proficient in English and can complete the application form in Burmese as well.
  • Are people with disabilities eligible to apply?
    Yes. People with disabilities are eligible and encouraged to apply. Youth Society for Education does not discriminate against people based on race, religion, sex, gender, sexuality, or disability. Having a disability will not affect your eligibility.
  • When and how will the selected candidates be contacted?
    Youth Society for Education (YSE) will start reaching out to the candidates via email or phone around the last week of November. Please remember to check your mail during this period.
  • Are there any interview sessions for candidates?
    There will be no interview sessions for selected candidates. However, candidates will be asked to submit a 3-5-minute-long self-recorded video. We will provide detailed instructions for the video in an upcoming email.
  • What are some tips for writing a strong personal statement or essay?
    Be Authentic: Share your genuine experiences, goals, and motivations. Be Specific: Use concrete examples to illustrate your points. Follow Guidelines: Adhere to word limits and specific prompts provided. Proofread: Check for grammar and spelling errors and consider having someone else review your essay.
  • Who should I ask to write my recommendation letter?
    You should ask someone who knows you well and can speak positively about your skills, character, and achievements. Ideal recommenders include teachers, professors, employers, supervisors, or mentors who have observed your contributions to community service. It’s important to choose someone who can provide specific examples and insights that highlight your qualifications for the opportunity you’re applying for.
  • What should be included in a strong recommendation letter?
    A strong recommendation letter should include: A paragraph detailing your qualifications and relevant experiences; The recommender's contact information; and The recommender's signature and Date.
  • How can applicants with disabilities complete the application form?
    Applicants with physical disabilities may use assistive technology to complete the application. However, the content of the application must reflect your own original ideas.
  • Are there any obligations or requirements if I receive the scholarship?
    Winners will be required to complete an agreement form detailing YSE’s Scholarship Terms and Conditions and their Post-Scholarship Obligations.
